Season 21’s Style of Thieves Theme Reveal!

Sea of Thieves now has Outfit Saving! Yes, we are going on about it a bit, but it’s relevant in the context of this article and this contest, let us have it. Style of Thieves has always been focused on inspiring our pirates to wade through their wardrobes and consider combinations of cosmetics that they may not naturally find, were it not for us dangling a pair of gloves as the incentive to do so. But now that Outfit Saving is here, you can enjoy the contest’s established attiring fun, but also save the fits you find that you’d want to wear again in the future!

Plus, you can now save your pirate’s usual getup as an outfit before starting on your entries, allowing you to restore them to their trademark gear without having to remember which page your favourite gloves were on. Improvements all round.

Quality of life aside, nothing else is changing for #StyleOfThieves this time out, so we’ll start with the standard recap of how the contest works, and how you could claim a pair of the Fashionista’s Finery Gloves for yourself. Posts dedicated to this Season’s themes will appear on Sea of Thieves social media channels around 10am UTC on the dates advertised below (November 2nd-5th), and those posts will signal that the 24-hour entry period for that specific theme has begun.

Once the theme is open, all you need to do is share a screenshot of your pirate (or pirates, there’s a Couples theme this time) wearing gear that you feel matches the brief. From clothing and Curses to hair and makeup, everything you can find in the Clothing Chest will be considered when viewing your entry, so make sure the screenshot you share gives a view of your pirate from head to toe, and try to think about what we might see a lot of – picking something more unique will help you stand out! Equipment, weapons and locations aren’t factored into the judging of the outfit.

Once a theme’s 24-hour submission window has closed, our team will collect a shortlist of their favourite interpretations. Arguments for why each should win will be presented to a member of the Sea of Thieves Art team through interpretive dance, and they will then pick their favourite entries through a return performance, all set to a soundtrack of hurdy-gurdy covers of popular music from the late ’90s.

There will be four winners chosen per theme, for a total of 16 winning entries across the four themes (delivering 20 pairs of gloves this Season, thanks to the two-pirate theme). We will aim to announce the glove-gaining scoundrels on Friday, November 13th.

As Style of Thieves traditionally draws quite a lot of entries, we feel compelled to reiterate that this should be seen as a fun excuse to enjoy some pirate dress-up first and foremost. Use the contest as a reason to flex your rarest cosmetics and see your scoundrel in some different gear than usual, and use it as an opportunity to enjoy seeing how the rest of the community has interpreted each theme! You might even spot a cosmetic you really like that you can aim to unlock on your next Voyage.

In short: even if you don’t win in this #StyleOfThieves contest, we hope that everyone who takes part simply has a good time exploring the fun of fashion within Sea of Thieves, and enjoys reminiscing over the cosmetics earned during their adventures so far.

Couples Costume
Join forces with another pirate for a spot of cosplay, putting on a pair of complimentary costumes based on an iconic duo.

How to Enter

There are of course rules to follow if you want to create a valid contest entry. For a refresher on these and how to enter via any of the applicable channels, please navigate back to this previous Style of Thieves article – remembering of course that Season 21’s themes are the ones in this article, the link’s just there for those who need the extra details!

We will also repeat what we said in Season 20, which is that while using the Free Camera in Custom Seas is fine, even encouraged, we still need to be able to clearly see your pirate’s outfit from head to toes, so don’t go over the top with fancy angles. Also note that, regardless of where you’re sharing your entry, you should be sure to include the name of the theme you’re entering in your post, along with any extra info called for by the theme itself.

As an additional stipulation to ensure a fair playing field, entries may only use the retail version of Sea of Thieves and not the Insider build, following the lifting of the Insider Programme NDA. If we spot cosmetics yet to appear in the retail build, your entry won’t be eligible.

Enough scary rules talk: at the end of the day, and at the end of this article, all we hope is that you have fun and find some nice new outfits to save and wear on future Voyages! Did we mention that you can save outfits now? We’ve been pretty quiet about it so you might not know, thought it was worth reminding you. Anyway, whether you find new favourite clothes or not, we’re looking forward to the digital fashion show from November 2nd-5th. Happy costuming!
