Every mission will demand adaptation as shifting conditions challenge your tactics and reveal new obstacles across the battlefield. This update is more than an addition—it’s a game-changer.

ADAPT YOUR TACTICS AS DAY TURNS TO NIGHT

The Night Ops update unlocks a whole new dimension of gameplay. Picture yourself deep in the jungle, pinned down, eyes locked on the tree line. Shots ring out, but you have no idea where your enemy hides. As sundown approaches, you prepare your night vision gear, knowing that the advantage may shift in your favor when darkness falls. But there’s a catch—you can only hope your enemy isn’t as well-equipped for the night as you are. This is just one of the many intense scenarios awaiting you with the Night Ops update.

Upon re-entering Lamang, you'll experience a day/night cycle at a 2:1 ratio, with three hours of real-time gameplay reflecting a full in-game day. Start your journey in the soft glow of dawn, transition through bright daylight, and feel the rising tension as night approaches. Shifting shadows will demand constant tactical adaptation, transforming the battlefield hour by hour. Every location reveals unique hiding spots that change with the time of day, requiring you to strategize around visibility as the day/night cycle unfolds. As darkness sets in, the world transforms—even the fauna grows silent, and every move becomes a calculated risk.

Prepare for a whole new layer of strategy: As the island darkens, exterior and interior lighting—like lamp posts, barrels, and candles—becomes crucial for adapting to your surroundings. You can even manipulate fuse boxes to control lights within buildings, giving you a chance to take unsuspecting foes by surprise. Rival PMCs, lurking under the cover of night, could be anywhere. The Night Ops update challenges you to outmaneuver both the environment and your enemies at every turn.

TACKLE NEW MISSIONS & OVERCOME EVOLVING AI

The Night Ops update introduces 22 completely new tasks, some specifically designed for nighttime, each offering fresh gameplay challenges and deeper immersion into the lore of Lamang Island. Tasks from the initial release have also been refined, providing a revitalized experience that will excite returning players.

You’ll also notice substantial improvements to enemy AI, adapting to the day/night cycle. Enemies now move with greater tactical awareness—patrolling, taking cover, and crouching to blend into their surroundings. Yet they are not invincible.

When darkness falls, you can capitalize on their limited gear. Unlike you, their vision depends solely on flashlights or exterior lighting, giving you the edge to strike from the shadows while they remain vulnerable and off guard. Picture infiltrating high-intensity zones like Tiger Bay or Midnight Sapphire, cloaked in darkness, with fresh tactics for confronting your enemies.

Moreover, the chance of AI landing one-hit kills has also been reduced. They’re now less reactive to sound, and we’ve also introduced a more realistic sight system. With refined fields of view and dynamic distance recognition, you’ll gain those crucial seconds to slip out of sight or reposition. And this is only the beginning—we’ll continue refining the AI experience with each update.

GEAR UP FOR THE NIGHT

The day/night cycle brings new challenges, and we’re arming you with the tools to conquer them: night vision goggles (NVGs), flashlights, and lasers. However, don’t expect a free pass—each piece of gear demands skill and adaptation to master its power.

Every NVG model was meticulously selected and designed based on in-depth research and real-life testing. Thanks to our collaboration with seasoned veterans and NVG manufacturers at Night Gear Solutions, we can confidently say that the NVG implementation in Gray Zone Warfare is as close to reality as possible, capturing both the strengths and limitations of the tools. Prepare to be surprised by NVGs’ representation in Gray Zone Warfare. While many games compromise realism for gameplay, often relying on a simple color filter, we’ve gone all-in on creating an unparalleled, true-to-life representation—unlike anything you’ve seen in other games. To achieve this level of realism, we’ve strongly emphasized the detailed design of effects that impact NVG functionality.

PUSHING THE BOUNDARIES OF TACTICAL GAMEPLAY

NVGs in Gray Zone Warfare are designed to be as authentic as possible, mirroring real-life limitations and requiring precise skill to master. Just like in reality, analog NVGs amplify existing light rather than creating it, and they’re affected by a grain effect that intensifies in darker areas. We’ve also simulated their limited Field of View (FOV), with the device physically restricting your vision, and addressed depth of field realistically, with objects outside the focal area appearing blurred. All of this means you’ll need good practice to use them effectively.

Under NVGs, colors shift authentically—vegetation appears lighter, while metals, glass, and water turn darker—adding to the immersion. Unique details, such as a halo effect around light sources and a crisp view of stars in the night sky, further enhance the night-time experience. But NVGs won’t give you an easy advantage; intense light sources can trigger auto-shutdown, and muzzle flashes can disrupt your view. Wear and tear will add realistic effects like cracks, dirt, and blemishes on the lenses, mirroring real-world challenges.

NVGs also impact your weapon setup, as not all parts and attachments are compatible. For example, certain collimators have night vision modes with lower light intensities to ensure compatibility with NVGs, allowing the reticle to appear clearly without overwhelming brightness. On the other hand, optics without such adjustments can appear blurry or too bright when viewed through NVG.

Additionally, using a canted aim is particularly effective, allowing for a clearer line of sight without needing to adjust or remove your goggles. This setup is especially useful for close-quarters engagements or when aiming with a primary optic isn’t feasible due to NVG limitations, giving you flexibility and precision in diverse combat scenarios.

EXPERIENCE NEXT-LEVEL NVGS

Gray Zone Warfare empowers you to own the night with a range of night vision tools, each tier enhancing your situational awareness and giving you the precision and confidence to tackle complex combat scenarios.

Initially, you’ll start with the low-tier PVS-7, a single-tube night vision biocular with green phosphor. While it has two eyepieces, the image is generated from a single tube, offering a small FOV with reduced weight and complexity.

You can upgrade to the PVS-14, a monocular device known for high-quality image intensification and adaptability across combat scenarios as you progress. Widely regarded as the most versatile and popular night vision product, it’s a staple choice for diverse tactical needs.

At the top of your arsenal is the PVS-31A, a modern, lightweight, dual-tube night vision goggle system featuring advanced white phosphorus technology. It provides more situational awareness compared to monocular systems like the PVS-14. Each eye receives its image, creating a more natural field of view.

DOMINATE THE NIGHT WITH THE RIGHT TOOLS

Since NVGs amplify only existing light, you’ll need to equip yourself with available light sources like flashlights and lasers, each available in multiple levels based on their power and modes. Some flashlights are harmless in combination with NVGs, while others can even be used to disorient your enemies, as a strong light source can shut NVGs down.

You’ll have access to top-tier infrared (IR) lasers and illuminators that emit light in the invisible IR spectrum. Paired with NVGs, these tools reveal their ‘beam’ to you while keeping you concealed from anyone without similar equipment. IR lasers are invaluable for covert signalling, target marking, and precision aiming, while IR illuminators—a feature rarely seen in games—cast a broad, dispersed beam to illuminate larger areas. Both tools are essential in Night Ops, allowing you to navigate and light your surroundings without exposing your position to enemies lacking NVGs.

Additionally, you’ll have the option to use tracer bullets—special rounds that leave a glowing trail, allowing you to follow each shot as it streaks toward the target. Tracers aren’t just for accuracy; they’re a powerful tool for signaling and marking high-priority targets for your squad. In night operations, they cut through the darkness, offering limited but invaluable illumination along their path and adding a whole new layer to your tactical edge.

Mastering this combination of tools will make you a formidable force. But success won’t come easy. If you can adapt to using these tools effectively, victory will follow.

EVERY MOVE MATTERS IN NIGHT OPS

Alongside all these new features, the Night Ops update will also deliver a significant number of fixes, balancing adjustments, and QoL improvements, many of which we highlighted in Devlog #5 and Devlog #6. This update also brings a complete wipe, giving everyone a fresh, level playing field. Get ready to take on revamped tasks and jump into intense battles side by side from square one.

Every decision you make will have significance, and every piece of high-value gear you acquire will feel hard-earned and invaluable.

EXPAND YOUR TACTICAL OPTIONS: NEW WEAPONS, MORE CHOICES

Having the right tool for every engagement is crucial, and your arsenal is getting a serious upgrade. We’re introducing new firearms, including the Colt 1911 and the AKS-74U, alongside the AK-Ratnik series (AK-12, AK-15, AK-19, and AK-308). These weapons come with attachments and modifications, allowing you to fine-tune them for any situation.

The AKS-74U will be available in the starter towns, offering players a reliable and versatile option that could quickly become a go-to weapon in the early game. Its compact design and effectiveness in close to mid-range combat make it ideal for a range of scenarios, allowing players to adapt to different challenges as they progress.

In the heat of battle, having dependable, close-range weapons is essential. That’s why we’re rebalancing shotguns and 9mm pistols to make them effective and formidable options in your arsenal. These enhancements will boost their viability in close-quarters combat, resulting in more dynamic firefights and offering you greater strategic flexibility tailored to your playstyle.

The introduction of new weapons and the rebalancing of rounds and ammunition create a wealth of options for players, prompting them to reevaluate their weapon choices based on ammunition types and engagement scenarios. Whether you're engaging at close range or preparing for long-range encounters, you'll have the flexibility to tailor your loadout to match the environment, ensuring you’re equipped for any situation that arises on Lamang Island.

INSPECT & CUSTOMIZE: 3D WEAPON INSPECTION

To ensure you’re fully prepared and ready before leaving the FOB, a thorough evaluation of your gear is crucial. The introduction of 3D weapon inspection allows you to examine every detail of your weapons and their attachments. Rotate and zoom in for a closer look, and assess your character in real-time to customize your loadout for optimal performance and style. This way, you can ensure your gear is tailored to suit your style and tactical needs before heading into the field.

IMPROVE COMBAT REALISM: ENHANCED ANATOMY AND BALLISTICS

With Update 0.2, every engagement with both AI and players should feel significant. We're enhancing tactical authenticity through improved ballistics, allowing bullets to pass through layers of skin, tissue, and bone. This creates more realistic and varied outcomes based on your shot placement, making every decision in combat impactful. For example, neck shots are now much deadlier, raising the stakes in every tactical encounter and giving you a stronger incentive to aim carefully and strategize your approach.

REBALANCE YOUR PLAY: MORE CHALLENGES, MORE REWARDS

Night Ops intensifies the tension between risk and reward, amplifying the concept of “gear fear.” Every encounter and bullet fired becomes critical because your hard-earned gear holds greater value, making the stakes higher than ever.

To enhance this experience, we're limiting the availability of some high-value gear. Powerful weapons, top-tier NVGs, and rare attachments will now primarily be earned through exploration, completing tasks, or defeating bosses. With vendors no longer providing an endless supply of weapons and ammo, you'll need to scavenge, explore, and strategize to acquire and retain the best loot.

GEAR UP WITH CAUTION: DURABILITY ADDS NEW TENSION

Durability mechanics are being introduced to your gear to enhance immersion and realism while encouraging a more tactical approach to combat and resource management. Over time, and especially in intense firefights, your equipment will degrade. For example, the more shots fired, the more components of your weapon will be affected and will eventually need replacement. Armor durability will also degrade with damage taken.

This system extends to NVGs and other critical items, adding yet another layer of tension. So, if you’re shot in the helmet, even your NVGs will sustain damage. In our upcoming Day & Night cycle devlog, we'll explore how durability affects nighttime operations.

Update 0.2 highlights the importance of meticulous gear management for survival in the field. With Update 0.3, durability loss will become even more critical, making your gear less reliable over time. Repairs will also be introduced in the update after 0.2. As updates roll out, mastering gear upkeep will be essential for your success and survival out there in Lamang.

ORGANIZE FASTER: STREAMLINED GEAR MANAGEMENT

To ensure you’re always mission-ready, we’re streamlining inventory management. In the upcoming update, you can filter and organize your equipment more efficiently, letting you get back into the action faster. Gear cases are essential for keeping your inventory neat and accessible, ensuring you're primed for any scenario without wasting time. RED ALERT: DON’T OVERLOOK CRUCIAL INTEL

To prevent wasted time and incomplete tasks, we've added a bold red text warning and a red icon directly above your “Objectives” when key intel is missing. Additionally, a red icon will appear under “Active tasks” beside the vendor's face and right underneath the task's name. These alerts ensure you're fully prepared, avoiding costly oversights like forgetting tracers from Gunny or missing intel needed to retrieve gear after respawning, helping you complete your mission efficiently.


IMPROVE TEAMWORK: SHARED WAYPOINTS & BETTER COORDINATION

Enhancing efficiency and cohesiveness within your squad is vital for tackling tasks and engaging with AI or rival factions. To facilitate strategic coordination, we’re introducing squad-shared waypoints, allowing your team to quickly identify and adjust meeting points for operations.

With improved minimap zooming and synchronized waypoints, communication within squads has never been clearer. Now, waypoints are visible to the entire team, not just individual players. This boosts situational awareness and empowers squads to make faster, informed decisions, leading to smoother interactions and more successful missions.

PROMOTE ACCOUNTABILITY: THE AGGRESSOR SYSTEM

The “Aggressor System” improves the quality of life for players by fostering accountability and reducing disruptive behavior, leading to a more enjoyable atmosphere for all. If a player kills or injures a teammate, they're marked as an aggressor and will lose the ability to loot their own body upon death. However, a nearby friend (even outside the squad) can loot the aggressor’s body without penalties and return the items, raising the stakes of friendly fire and encouraging more responsible gameplay.

This system is just the beginning. It lays the groundwork for a future "Rogue System," which will allow players to embrace more chaotic and unpredictable gameplay styles. We will be closely monitoring player feedback to refine and adjust this mechanic, aiming to streamline these systems while keeping disruptive players in check.

Hey Everyone,

As part of our ongoing efforts to optimize Gray Zone Warfare, we have identified an issue with Lumen’s Async Compute within the Unreal Engine that was responsible for a significant number of GPU crashes. This has now been resolved, resulting in improved system stability and a reduction in crash occurrences.

CHANGES

• Disabled Lumen's Async Compute within the Unreal Engine to prevent GPU crashes related to this feature.

While stability has improved, crashes may still occur. If they persist, try switching from FSR to DLSS or TSR, and enable GPU Crash Debugging in the game’s settings to assist our investigation (note that this may impact performance). When the Unreal Crash Reporter appears, please include details of your actions leading up to the issue and click “Send to Madfinger.”

As we add new content for the upcoming Night Ops Update, we're also continuously working on fixing crashes and improving performance to ensure you have the best experience possible.

We’ve identified the potential cause for more than half of our GPU CRASHES. (However, there is still one more issue with upscaling causing crashes, namely while ADSing with a magnification scope.)

We would like to ask you for help once again. We need to test this change with as many different PC set ups as possible.

If you experience GPU CRASHES on live servers, please go to the experimental branch and try switching from FSR to a different upscaling method to see if you experience fewer crashes.

Note: Your performance may also be affected by this Hotfix.

We know there’s still work to be done, and we’re committed to responding to your feedback to make GZW the best it can be. Our mission is to build a dynamic, evolving environment that challenges players, keeps the gameplay fresh, and deepens the lore and tactical complexity that define the game. Night Ops marks the beginning of this evolution, enhancing many aspects of the game to make encounters more intense, decisions more impactful, and gameplay more rewarding.

This is just the start—stay tuned as we dive deeper into the essential quality-of-life changes and long-awaited features in Night Ops. Part 2 will highlight even more of your feedback-driven enhancements, showing our dedication to improving GZW and giving you even more reasons to return to Lamang.

REFINED HELICOPTER MECHANICS FOR FASTER, SMOOTHER TRAVELING

Helicopter mechanics have been overhauled to streamline your travel experience across Lamang Island. Little Birds now spawn and despawn closer to the map’s edge, reducing the time you spend waiting for transport. Instead of originating from distant FOBs, helicopters now start their journey from off-map locations to the closest LZs, slashing transit times and getting you into the action or back to the FOB faster. We’ve also repositioned some of the old LZs to optimize your travel routes and added even more LZs to help mitigate LZ camping.

Additionally, we’ve optimized their flight paths by adjusting speeds and introducing new splines that provide more efficient and direct routes. These refined flight paths mean helicopters will travel quicker and more predictably between locations, allowing for smoother transitions and better overall mission pacing. To help you plan your moves more effectively, a new widget has been introduced that tracks flight times, giving you a clearer understanding of helicopter arrival and departure schedules. We've also added a headset-off toggle for better in-game communication control. These changes make aerial transport more responsive, cutting down delays and keeping you focused on the task at hand.

HUNT FOR RARE, HIGH-VALUE LOOT

High-value loot that promises to elevate your tactical options and extend your adventures across Lamang Island. These coveted items won’t be easy to find, pushing you to explore deeper, venture further, and hunt for these rarities even after you’ve completed your tasks. With the stakes high, you'll need to move these valuable finds quickly to your locker—losing them is not in the plans for your PMC. These additions will provide more variety and depth to your gameplay and enhance the urgency and excitement of your loot runs. The quest for these rare items ensures that every exploration is filled with purpose, allowing you to experiment with different strategies and make the most of your hard-earned discoveries.

FIND ESSENTIAL KEYS QUICKER

Key spawns have been significantly improved: essential keys will now appear in logical and contextually relevant locations, making them easier to find and less reliant on a random fallen enemy. This change helps optimize your gameplay by reducing time spent searching and ensuring that you can focus more on your assigned tasks. With these improvements, your missions will be more smooth and engaging, allowing for smoother progression through tasks and a more immersive experience as you uncover the deeper layers of Lamang Island’s narrative.

EXPEDITE YOUR LOOTING: GRAB GEAR QUICKLY & STAY IN THE ACTION

In Gray Zone Warfare, the looting process has been improved to enhance your tactical efficiency and gameplay experience. You can now directly loot backpacks, rigs, and containers from the ground, eliminating the need for cumbersome interactions and reducing time spent searching through inventory screens. This improvement allows you to quickly and seamlessly gather essential gear and resources during the heat of battle or while scavenging the environment, keeping the action fluid and minimizing downtime. By simplifying the looting process, you can focus more on strategic decisions and less on managing inventory, leading to a more immersive and responsive gameplay experience.

INSPECT INJURIES & ASSESS GEAR

Looting bodies have been enhanced to deepen your tactical interactions and strategic opportunities. You can now view the injuries of dead players, gaining insights into the nature of their demise and identifying injuries on their bodies. Additionally, you have the ability to check the inventory of comatose players, allowing you to use their items to attempt a rescue or gain valuable resources. These improvements not only enrich your tactical decision-making by providing more context about fallen enemies but also introduce new gameplay strategies, such as using captured items for life-saving interventions.

BULLET TRAJECTORIES: SEE EXACTLY HOW YOU GOT HIT

The updated health and death screen now displays bullet trajectories, showing exactly where shots hit you and the path they traveled—whether from other players or AI enemies. This feature provides a clear breakdown of shot origins and impact points, assuring you of the exact way you were damaged. By visualizing bullet paths, you gain a better understanding of enemy positions and attack angles, allowing you to adjust your tactics, avoid repeat mistakes, and improve your overall situational awareness on Lamang Island.

ENHANCE YOUR MISSION STRATEGY

Tasks in Gray Zone Warfare are getting a revamp with new additions and storyline tweaks, enriching your overall mission experience. Essential items may now be relocated, and with the introduction of nighttime play, you can choose to tackle tasks under the cover of darkness for added challenge and tactical planning. We’re also introducing over 20 new tasks, some specifically designed for the night, allowing you to explore different aspects of the game and adapt your approach based on the time of day.

New quest icons help you quickly identify and prioritize tasks, improving navigation, planning, and decision-making. They also highlight required items and potential consequences, enhancing your strategy and resource management. You’ll also have the option to hand over items from your stash, improving resource management and flexibility. However, be mindful of the new negative consequences for failed decision-making quests, including potential reputation loss, which adds a layer of risk and impact to your choices. These changes not only add variety but also deepen your engagement by offering fresh, contextually relevant missions that align with the evolving gameplay and storyline.

ELEVATE TEAM COMMS WITH NEW EMOTES & FACTION MESSAGING

Teamwork and communication are crucial for surviving the challenges of Lamang Island. To bolster your coordination, we’re introducing new emotes and a faction messenger system. The new emotes facilitate quick, expressive communication and enhance social interaction, allowing players to signal intentions or express themselves without needing to type out messages. The faction messenger enhances team communication, enabling you to request support, alert others of heavy PvP battles, and coordinate more effectively. These enhancements will help ensure that you and your squad stay in sync, make swift decisions, and improve overall mission success, also benefiting players who prefer not to use voice chat and creating a more cohesive and efficient gameplay experience.

Emotes are currently focused more on social aspects, including basic signals and a sitting pose. Tactical communication signals are planned for future updates.

IDENTIFY & COORDINATE

Speaking of teamwork, visual faction identification is crucial for effective tactical coordination. To improve this, each PMC will now display distinct shoulder patches representing their faction. This feature not only helps you quickly identify allies and enemies, reducing accidental teamkilling, but also preserves the gritty, immersive combat experience that defines Gray Zone Warfare. By making faction affiliations more apparent, it will foster clearer communication and teamwork, leading to a more cohesive and focused combat experience.

NEW REPORTING & SOCIAL INTERACTION FEATURES

We’re finally introducing an in-game reporting system and an improved social interactions UI, both designed to foster a safer and more positive environment for all players. The new reporting system allows you to easily flag disruptive behavior, ensuring swift action to protect the integrity of the game and the community. Alongside this, the revamped social interactions UI simplifies how you manage and navigate your in-game relationships—whether friends, allies, or rivals—making it easier to collaborate, form strategies, and stay connected. These updates are aimed at enhancing not just gameplay, but the overall experience of playing in a cooperative and respectful space.

NEW FEATURES FOR PRECISION & CONTROL

You’ll now have the ability to hold weapons without a magazine, allowing you to use the last bullet in the chamber or pick up weapons dropped without magazines, adding more versatility to your tactical options and enhancing your ability to fight for survival.

Additional updates include diagonal sprinting for enhanced movement flexibility and toggle options that offer improved control during high-intensity situations. These enhancements are designed to give you more precise control and adaptability in the heat of battle, making your gameplay experience smoother and more responsive.

EXPAND YOUR LOCKER

As you progress and complete more tasks, you’ll have the chance to expand your locker capacity, allowing you to store more loot and gear. This upgrade helps you stay organized and makes each return to base more rewarding.

Note: This expansion will match the space provided by DLCs, not add extra. For instance, if you own the Tactical DLC, which provides +10 locker lines, you’ll unlock the additional +10 lines at rank 30, not rank 20. We do not plan to exceed the space provided by the supporter edition.

EXPLORE A RICHER LAMANG WITH NEW ENVIRONMENTAL POINTS

Lamang Island will receive new environmental points for richer exploration and richer lore, deepening your understanding of the world’s history. Although the map size remains the same at 42km², we’re increasing its density: you'll encounter more locations, more loot, additional enemy AI, and more detailed environmental storytelling throughout the existing locations. This means a richer and more immersive experience as you delve into the tales of Lamang Island.
