Patch 0.2.4.0 Live for Testing

5696c5975a3394b78a1d2795d529b5a9811e92e7.jpg

Hey, GZW Community,

Patch 0.2.4.0 is now live on the public-experimental branch for testing.

This patch addresses several key issues reported by the community, including AI shooting through walls, AI sprinting unnaturally fast to cover, problems related to repairs, crash fixes, and more.

We’d really appreciate your participation — your feedback is critical in deciding whether these fixes make it to the live branch.

Changelog:

Crash fixes
  • Fixed a crash caused by unplugging a microphone while no other audio input was connected to the player's PC
  • Fixed a crash on the vendor trading screen
  • Fixed a crash caused by a very specific chain of events - by removing critical weapon parts from a weapon that is currently equipped on a player in a coma and then using the weapon
Bug fixes
Gameplay
  • Fixed an issue which caused a player's latest body to become unlootable if the player disconnected from the game after dying
  • Fixed a rare issue that allowed players revived from a coma to use an incomplete weapon (and cause a crash)
AI
  • Fixed an issue that allowed AI NPCs to track and shoot players without a direct line of sight (a.k.a. see them through walls)
  • Fixed an issue causing the AI NPCs to change speed when running to cover abruptly
Repairs
  • Fixed an issue causing players to be unable to toggle a tactical device on or off after repairing a weapon
  • Fixed a rare issue where players were unable to sell weapon parts after repairing a weapon
  • Removed the repair button from the item detail window of items without durability
UI
  • Fixed the latency calculation on the latency warning icon to only measure actual connection latency as intended
  • Fixed a rare issue causing players to be unable to attach a weapon part to a weapon by dragging it directly into a weapon slot
Tech
  • Fixed a memory leak, which might result in excessive VRAM usage after re-entering the game
  • Increased the reconnection grace period to 10 minutes. Players will now have more time to reconnect to the game before their character is reset.

Devlog #8: Game Flow & Quality of Life in Winds of War

Hello, GZW Community,

The Winds of War update is landing this spring, and it’s packed with significant additions for both PvP and PvE players. We kicked things off with our Roadmap Reshaped stream, spotlighting some of the biggest changes—and there’s still plenty more to share.

Your feedback has played a key role in shaping our direction. In this devlog, we’re diving into Game Flow and Quality of Life improvements—meaningful upgrades that fundamentally enhance your experience in Lamang.

Game Flow Improvements

MANAGE TASKS WHILE DEPLOYED
No more constant trips back to base — you can now accept and deliver tasks directly in the field. To pick up or hand in task items, use the newly added Combat Outposts (COPs): capturable strategic points you can conquer and use for respawning and restocking.

CHOOSE YOUR RESPAWN POINT - BASE OR THE NEAREST COP
After death, you can respawn at the nearest COP held by your faction or back at base, allowing you to jump back into action or retreat.

SHARE KILL COUNT FOR ELIMINATION TASKS IN SQUADS
Elimination tasks now track squad-wide progress — as long as you stay close, every kill counts, even from squad members who don’t have the task active.

PROGRESS THROUGH THE STARTER TOWN MORE QUICKLY & SMOOTHLY
We’ve reworked the early-game flow, making the progression faster and more engaging.

ENJOY A MIX OF REWORKED AND NEWLY ADDED TASKS
You’ll notice a mix of overhauled and newly added tasks, bringing better pacing, variety, and clarity. Updated tasks will be marked, so you’ll know exactly what’s changed.

8f42ad6465a04e8ef31abcea17bb82aa1bfd5026.jpg

Quality of Life Improvements

PLAY GZW IN YOUR LANGUAGE
We’re introducing the first iteration of localization support for the following languages: German, French, Portuguese (Brazilian), Spanish, Italian, Polish, Czech, Turkish, Chinese (Simplified), Korean, and Japanese.
Localization will continue to improve over time, and we may add more languages in the future. We’ll keep the community updated as we move forward.

ENGAGE WITH MORE REACTIVE AI ENEMIES
Fighting AI enemies is about to feel more immersive with new injury reaction animations. They'll now check their wounds, limp when critically injured, react to flashbangs, and even get stunned if they survive a headshot. This gives you real-time feedback in the heat of combat and helps level the playing field.

LEARN VALUABLE INFORMATION ABOUT INJURIES
Injuries are now broken down in greater detail on the Health Screen for both your character and dead bodies. You’ll be able to identify whether the damage came from a knife, barbed wire, firearm, or a mix of sources.

If hit by a firearm, the screen will display the shot’s direction, exact projectile type, and armor penetration details.

All this information helps you understand what went wrong, better prepare for your next fight, and even infer the playstyle of the enemy who left the trail behind.

PROGRESS WITH A REBALANCED VENDOR SYSTEM
To encourage more thoughtful and rewarding progression, we’re adjusting vendor inventories, stock levels, and the availability of items based on task completion. You’ll start with more basic gear and build up your arsenal over time, giving each upgrade a stronger sense of achievement. We’re also introducing a fourth Vendor Level, unlocking even more options as you advance.

SORT YOUR LOCKER
In addition to packing, you can now sort your locker by item type, making it easier to keep your gear organized.

cfb0028b102818fef684997b06b36222eb2326fb.gif

MAKE BETTER USE OF CONTAINERS AND ACQUIRE NEW TYPES
You can now store your items (such as grenades or weapon parts) in newly added container types. We've also rebalanced existing container sizes and tweaked how and where you obtain them, making inventory management more practical and efficient.

700ddbeca0f323cca3bc2c39e7597fc087204310.jpg

USE SCOPES AND SIGHTS MORE SEAMLESSLY
We’ve implemented smooth scope zooming to make aiming more natural and comfortable. Additionally, scopes and sights now appear closer to your view, enhancing authenticity and immersion in combat.

b7db8c93549c68128edd5f4b5df8030dd55ea891.gif

IDENTIFY FRIENDLIES FASTER
Faction members are now wearing armbands, which makes it easier to identify allies quickly and reduces accidental team kills during intense fights.

a99417f4c746ac197fdf14452e472355cf9f2ca8.jpg

CHOOSE TO RESPAWN WHEN STUCK WITH NO WAY OUT
If you get stuck in a problematic spot, you can respawn manually. We're also actively working on fixing those map areas to reduce the chances of this happening in the first place.

SHOOT THE LIGHTS
Yes, the first iteration of light destruction is finally here — you can now shoot out lights in select locations, opening up new opportunities to move stealthily and outmaneuver your enemies under the cover of darkness.

f0acd5924e80cc44091246b2b41328d09de908db.gif

TAKE CARE OF YOUR DAMAGED GEAR—NOW IN A MORE REALISTIC WAY
Durability loss and the repair system are being overhauled. We're removing automatic durability loss upon death or coma. Instead, weapons will now degrade slowly through use — and much more significantly when hit by bullets.

The expanded repair system introduces several options to maintain your gear. You’ll need to choose between a slower repair method (during which the item remains unusable) or newly added repair kits that restore items instantly.

The system will continue to be balanced and refined in future updates.

ba580660938c96d26afc958debfaa51ecf581f67.gif

REPORT BUGS DIRECTLY IN-GAME
You can now report both players and bugs through a dedicated in-game form. This makes it quicker to share issues, helps us improve the game, and foster a healthier community.

SHARPEN YOUR AWARENESS WITH IMPROVED AMBIENT AUDIO
We’ve made several tweaks to in-game audio, including lowering the volume of fauna and waterfalls, to create a more balanced and immersive soundscape.

The Road to Release

Many of these improvements come straight from your feedback — and we can’t wait for you to see how they elevate your experience in Lamang.

That said, we’re just getting started. There’s still plenty more to reveal in the Winds of War update. As we get closer to launch in the coming months, we’ll continue to share new features and give you a look behind the scenes at our progress. The team will be pushing hard all the way to release.

Share your thoughts—and stay tuned. More exciting news is coming, with our next devlog focused on gear and weapons.

Watch the Roadmap Reshaped Stream on VOD & Get Answers to Your FAQs

Hello, everyone,

Join Marek Rabas (CEO & Creative Director) as he unveils exciting changes to the Gray Zone Warfare roadmap and introduces the upcoming Winds of War update. In this video, you'll learn how the game is going to evolve over the year and what led us to reshape its direction.

For immediate feedback, we've invited special guests Klean, NoiceGuy, and Tyy_Plays to pick Marek’s brain on all the new changes.

youtube_16x9_placeholder.gif

In addition to what was covered in the stream, we’d like to address some of the most frequently asked questions from the community:

Post-Roadmap Reshaped FAQ

What happens to PvE with the Winds of War update?

While Winds of War introduces new PvP features, PvE remains a key focus in Gray Zone Warfare. This update expands player choice and enhances the experience for both PvP and PvE players.

Winds of War will bring exciting new features for all playstyles, many of which we discussed during the Roadmap Reshaped stream. As we get closer to release, we’ll continue to share more details on what’s coming.

Although we reshuffled the roadmap to introduce PvP improvements sooner, this shift aligns with our long-term vision for the game. Player feedback has shown that PvP needs refinements, and we’re committed to delivering those improvements.

That said, we greatly value our PvE community and recognize its importance. As promised, besides Winds of War, we will release the Dark Revelations (0.4) update this year, with a strong focus on lore and narrative expansion.

How will Combat Outposts (COPs) work in PvE and PvP?

With Update 0.3, we’re introducing capturable Combat Outposts (COPs)—strategic points you can conquer and use for respawning and restocking. These outposts will function differently in PvP and PvE:
  • PvP: Factions will battle for control over COPs. Once captured, guards will spawn to defend it. Rival factions must fight to take it back for themselves.
  • PvE: The first faction to capture a COP must fight AI defenders. Once secured, all faction members can access it freely. Guards will only return after a server restart.
How will weather affect performance?

Like any major feature, weather may have some impact on performance, but we're working hard to minimize its rendering demands. Optimization and performance remain a top priority—they are an ongoing, long-term effort, and we are committed to refining and improving the game with every update.

When is the release date for Winds of War (0.3)?

We don’t have an exact ETA, but development is underway. The update is planned for spring 2025.

Will you add more guns?

Yes, you can expect four new weapons to be introduced in the Winds of War update.

Patch 0.2.3.0 Now Live - Changelog #2

Hey, GZW Community,

Patch 0.2.3.0 is now live on the public branch. Download the update and dive in.

Thanks to your feedback, we quickly identified and fixed the issue with looting AI bodies in PvE mode. If you encounter any further problems, let us know!

This patch brings several key changes, including the first iteration of the highly requested repair system and fixes for numerous community-reported issues, such as AI improvements.

New Features & Balance Improvements
27783024c96dc0f08cd99e8db00ef844c90b4863.gif

  • Repair, Don't Replace
Say goodbye to constantly swapping out damaged gear. Our new Repair Feature lets you restore your worn-out equipment at the FOB. Remember that every repair slightly reduces the item's maximum durability. Choose wisely and keep your best gear in fighting shape.

  • Leveling Up with Vendors Made Easier
We have made it smoother to build that crucial vendor progression. Now, selling items to vendors also earns you reputation points, not just buying. We have lowered the grind for Level 3 rep with Lab Rat, Artisan, Turncoat, and Banshee. Get those upgrades faster and stay mission-ready.

  • Disconnection Protection
Losing connection shouldn't mean losing your life. Now, if you disconnect, your character disappears to avoid unfair deaths. Reconnect within 5 minutes, and you will pick up exactly where you left off. Survival should depend on skill, not internet hiccups.

  • Looting Made Smoother
We have fine-tuned loot interactions, making grabbing those smaller, hard-to-click items easier. No more frustration when the prompt shows up, but the loot stays out of reach. If you see it, you can grab it.

  • Dead Bodies, New Rules
All dead bodies now stay on the map for 1 hour. If you die more than once, your older bodies will remain lootable for others—but you can only loot your latest body. The interaction widget will clearly show which body you should recover. Play smart, and don't leave valuable loot behind.
Bug Fixes & Improvements
  • Fixed an issue causing the server hitboxes not to update properly during sprinting, crouching, and crawling
  • Fixed an issue causing the server to move the character’s upper body hitboxes when looking around using the freelook function as if the player was actually aiming
  • Fixed a crash when unplugging an audio device while running the game
  • Fixed an issue that caused increased RAM usage when using FSR and alt-tabbing from the game
  • Fixed an issue causing an Easy Anti-Cheat error after connecting to the server on computers with lower-end CPUs
  • Fixed an issue causing the quick map keybinding to stop working
  • Fixed an issue making players visible through certain short covers (bushes, etc.) under certain circumstances
  • Fixed an issue causing AI NPCs to sometimes float or fly in the air
  • Fixed an issue causing AI NPCs to fail to see players through glass. AI will now react properly to players behind windows or glass doors
  • Fixed an issue causing AI NPCs to aim too high in close-quarter engagements with players
  • Fixed an issue that reset the zeroing on sniper scopes after canting
  • Fixed an issue that caused the mortars not to trigger when approaching the enemy FOB
  • Fixed an issue that caused the mortars to activate when fighting near the motel on the road to the enemy FOB
  • Fixed an issue causing bullets not to penetrate some windows in UNLRA Headquarters in Tiger Bay
  • Fixed several locations in Fort Narith where windows were set up improperly, and AI NPCs were unable to see players through them
  • Fixed several locations in the starter towns where windows were set up improperly, and AI NPCs were unable to see players through them
  • Fixed an issue in the No Questions Asked task where, on a rare occasion, one of the sub-objectives failed to register after interaction
  • Fixed an issue that resulted in inconsistent durability loss on items after death
  • Fixed several flight paths where the helicopter clipped through trees during the flight
  • Increased the quality of ammunition found in the green wooden military ammo boxes
  • Fixed an issue causing the AK-19 magazine purchased from Turncoat to be incompatible with AK-19 rifles
If you encounter any further issues, please report them to our Customer Care. Your bug reports and feedback are invaluable in helping us improve Gray Zone Warfare: https://support.madfingergames.com/hc/en-us/requests/new

We’re committed to continually enhancing the Gray Zone Warfare experience and will keep working to improve the game. Development updates will be shared along the way, so stay tuned. Thank you for being part of this Early Access journey with us!

5e752b5a9779a85a5b9b1e68fc0f6f55a25fe15f.jpg

Hey, GZW Community,

Patch 0.2.3.0 Experimental #2 is now live on the public-experimental branch for testing. It contains an additional crash fix and Repair System tweaks.

Jump in and test it out to help us ensure a smooth launch!

STEPS FOR TESTING & FEEDBACK FORM: https://forms.gle/7xscPQq8bqw8RMZJ7
Please read the instructions carefully and fill it out once you are done with the playtest.

Available servers
  • EU West
  • US East
  • US West
Mode
  • Warfare (PvEvP)
In this Experimental, you will have your live server progression, however, your live progression WILL NOT BE AFFECTED by playing in the experimental.

If you encounter a crash, please turn on GPU Debugging in the game settings.

How to join?
  1. Go offline and online in Steam (via the Steam tab in the upper left corner).
  2. Right-click on Gray Zone Warfare and select "Properties."
  3. In the "Betas" tab, click on "none" ("Beta Participation" section) and select the "public-experimental" branch.
  4. Update the game.
Feel free to discuss in the experimental-chat channel on our Discord. Playtest will last for a few days.

Patch 0.2.3.0 Important Changes
  • Repair feature introduction
You can now repair your damaged equipment instead of replacing damaged or worn-out parts. You can repair your items in the FOB, but each repair negatively affects the maximum durability.

  • Progressing to max vendor level is now easier
We made it easier to reach the max level with vendors. In addition to receiving reputation points for buying items from vendors, players now receive vendor reputation points for selling items to them as well. Furthermore, we decreased the requirements for reaching level 3 reputation with LabRat, Artisan, Turncoat, and Banshee.

  • Adjustment to character behavior when a player loses connection
We changed how the character behaves when a player loses connection. Now, the character disappears to prevent getting killed when offline. If the player returns within the reconnection time (5 minutes), they reappear in the game and can continue from the point when they disconnected.

  • Rework of loot interactions with smaller or less prominent items
We reworked loot interactions to make interacting with smaller or less prominent items easier. This should prevent situations where players cannot pick up loot, even though the interaction prompt is present.

  • Change to how dead bodies behave
We made changes to how players' dead bodies behave. All dead bodies now stay on the map for 1 hour. This means that if you die more than once, your older bodies will stay in the game world, and other players can loot them. However, you can only loot your latest body. This is denoted in the interaction widget when you try to loot your older body.
  • Fixed an issue causing all messages in the messenger to be sorted from the oldest and not from the newest
  • Fixed several locations in Fort Narith where windows were set up improperly, and AI NPCs were unable to see players through them
  • Fixed several locations in the starter towns where windows were set up improperly, and AI NPCs were unable to see players through them
  • Fixed an issue that resulted in inconsistent durability loss on items after death.
  • Fixed several flight paths where the helicopter clipped through trees during the flight
  • Randomized the amount of money AI NPCs are carrying
  • Increased the quality of ammunition found in the green wooden military ammo boxes

We appreciate your help and are grateful for your support!

2024: A MAD Year for MADFINGER Games

Hello, GZW Community,

As we step into 2025, it’s the perfect time to reflect on the challenges we faced and the strides we made together over the past year. 2024 was a defining chapter for MADFINGER Games—a year of bold risks, hard-earned victories, and laying the foundation for a future we’re excited to build with you.

youtube_16x9_placeholder.gif

The High-Stakes Gamble That Paid Off
At the beginning of 2024, we faced a daunting reality. MADFINGER Games was at a crossroads. With limited resources and almost no money left to cover salaries, everything depended on the success of one project: Gray Zone Warfare. We launched the game in Early Access on April 30 with everything on the line. The result exceeded our hopes: over 1 million units sold. This milestone secured our financial stability and the game’s future.

From a Rocky Launch to Great Progress
While the Early Access launch was a financial success, it was far from flawless. The game launched with its fair share of issues, and both players and developers were met with challenges. However, with the support and collaboration of our incredible community, we identified these problems and worked tirelessly to address them.

Since the release, we’ve fixed over 2,163 bugs and released 14 hotfixes and 3 patches, with more on the way. Alongside these fixes, we’ve implemented numerous quality-of-life improvements to enhance your experience. This hard work is reflected in the growing confidence of our players, as evidenced by our recent review score on Steam climbing from 68% to 75%.

Gray Zone Warfare earned a spot in Steam's Best of 2024, ranking among the Top Sellers, New Releases, and Most Played games. We are deeply grateful to our incredible players for making this achievement possible.

Building a Stronger Team
The success of Gray Zone Warfare has allowed us to reinvest in our most valuable resource—our team. This year, we welcomed 31 new team members, bringing fresh perspectives and expertise. Their contributions are already making a difference, and you’ll see their impact in future updates and improvements.

We also had the incredible opportunity to attend some of the industry's biggest events: Gamescom, Game Access, TwitchCon San Diego, and TwitchCon Amsterdam. These gatherings allowed us to connect face-to-face with our community, fellow developers, and talented content creators. It was an unforgettable highlight of the year.

Connecting with the Community
One of our proudest achievements in 2024 was strengthening our bond with the Gray Zone Warfare community. We've worked hard to keep you informed and involved through live streams, Dev Events, and engaging across social media, Discord, and Steam. Your feedback has been invaluable, shaping the game in meaningful ways. We’re deeply committed to developing Gray Zone Warfare in partnership with you, the players.

Looking Ahead
While Gray Zone Warfare is still in its pre-alpha stage, our vision for the game remains ambitious. We’re fully committed to realizing its full potential and delivering an experience that sets a new standard in our genre: an open-world extraction shooter.

In 2025, our efforts will remain focused on resolving current issues, optimizing performance, and enhancing stability, while rolling out two major updates. These updates will bring exciting additions, including expanded PvP content, more profound lore and storytelling, and the introduction of a dynamic weather system—just a glimpse of what’s to come. This is only the beginning, and we’re committed to pushing the boundaries of what Gray Zone Warfare can achieve. Stay tuned—more details about our roadmap will be shared in the coming weeks.

Join Us on This Journey
2024 has been a year of transformation for MADFINGER Games. From the uncertainty at the start of the year to the milestones we’ve achieved together, none of this would have been possible without the support and trust of our community.

We hope you’ll continue to join us on this journey as we move forward. Follow our channels to stay updated, share your thoughts, and help us shape the future of Gray Zone Warfare. Together, we’re building something extraordinary.

Thank you for an unforgettable year—see you in Lamang!

Every Move Matters,
